TTM&M Symposium 2011 - History of Old Medicine Hospital (Thai Massage School Shivagakomarpaj)
Presentation: Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of "Northern Style" Thai massage The Shivagakomarpaj Lineage style of Thai massage (commonly called the "Northern Style") was developed by Ajahn Sintorn Chaichakan, a traditional Thai doctor from Chiang Mai. For 50 years, this style of massage has been taught at his institution, the Old Medicine Hospital, and it has grown to be the most influential form of Thai massage outside of Thailand. Dr Salguero will give an introduction to the lineage, and show how Ajahn Sintorn's teachings have influenced every major Thai massage school in North America today. Dr Pierce Salguero was recognized as a teacher in the Shivagakomarpaj Lineage by Ajahn Sintorn in 1997. Through his former school TaoMountain, and now at Thai Institute, he has been a major proponent of the Thai healing arts in the USA for the past 14 years. He has written multiple books on Thai massage and medicine that have been translated into Chinese, Czech, Estonian, Portuguese, and Spanish, and continues to teach courses on all aspects of traditional Thai medicine.
