why do some massage places use towels and others sheets?
It all depends on the massage therapist's preference and the training he/she received. Reasons are more often personal but, they are in fulfillment of one of the massage therapist's work ethics which to make you and the environment clean and comfortable.

As a customer you also have a choice to pick either, and any massage therapist worth his salt should have both the towel and sheets at hand when needed
just wondering on why some massage therapists use towels and others use towels. is there any specific reason? is it a speculated "comfort level" for both? to stay warm? can you request to have a towel instead of a sheet or is that out of bounds? i have only had a massage under a sheet, but it seems as it would be even better with just a towel.
