How do I stop him freaking out after sex?

I got together with my childhood-boyfriend five months ago - (you know those silly little relationships you have when your eight). His name is Edison, we have been close friends since we were very young.

Ed has been in the British Army since he was a teenager - we are both 28-years-old now. In January this year he was forced to leave due to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Since then he has been told he has very severe PTSD. He is still living with his adoptive parents as they monitor his medications and such. Luckily, unlike most people with PTSD, Ed doesn't struggle to control his anger, he very rarely even raises his voice - but he does have a lot of other issues that others don't suffer.

Here are some regular symptoms of PTSD:
Nightmares / Night terrors
Flashbacks
Palpitations
Muscle tension
Hyperventilation (fast breathing)
Hyper-vigilance (always alert)
Feeling jumpy
Self blame
Depression

Some things Ed has trouble with;
Eye contact
Hugs / kisses
Talking to men
His body / scars
Self conscious

Ed is on a lot of medication some of it can cause heightened sex drive, which has been really hard for him to deal with as he has wanted sex but been too self conscious to act on it due to the fact he has a heck of a lot of scars, mainly on his torso and back, & some on his thigh. Edison doesn't even take his t-shirt of in the shower because seeing his scars triggers a lot of symptoms.

Ed and myself decided that last week we would have sex. I bought candles and massage lotions to try and relax him as much as possible before. It seemed to go really well and for about 10 minutes or so at the end he was top-less. My problem is that afterwards he got really distraught and had a panic attack which took me (and his adoptive-mum) 2 hours to calm down.

Can you give me any tips that could help keep him relaxed afterwards?

Bill, our families are very close friends, so we all spend a lot of time together. I do talk to his physiatrist as he has asked me along to family sessions.
I am not aware of anything like that over here Harrald. Medical care is free in the UK, he has not had to pay for anything (so far).
